It was a nice and toasty day. Perhaps a bit too warm for P.E. at 1:00. All the kids came back drenched in sweat! They collectively sighed when they came back into the nice, air conditioned classroom. SSR was scheduled for after P.E. I knew we weren’t going to be able to get anything done till after they cooled down.

Besides some warm P.E., the class worked on some writing, geography, and math.

All Artifact Bags will be shared tomorrow! Please don’t forget!

Tomorrow is also the first Spirit Day and assembly. Show school spirit by wearing blue or wearing the Foothill shirt!

The third day of school was spent putting in place the routines we follow all year long. Every morning, the class starts with Mountain Math, a math warm-up that reviews basic concepts. After recess, the class works on DOL (Daily Oral Language). Fourth grade DOL is a paragraph containing errors in spelling, punctuation, and grammar. After 5 or so minutes, the class and I review the errors and make corrections. The after lunch period is generally spent covering science, social studies, and art. Today we started the first lesson in chapter 1 of social studies. The first chapter in social studies touches on California’s geography. Some important vocabulary from this lesson were: hemisphere, Pacific Basin, Western State, and Relative location.

I’ve asked the class to always have a chapter book to read in their desk. They are welcome to read books from the classroom library or the school library (when it opens) or bring a book from home. SSR time will be spent only reading chapter books.

Artifact Bags are due on Friday! Don’t forget!
